The romance between Latie and Tamie blossomed.
The gossip columns made it news. The ladies couldn't help feeling jealous and
envious as at the way the love birds engrossed themselves in the affair.
For Latie, it was her fantasy come to life. In
Tamie, she found a friend, a brother, a confidante. They'd been on now for six
months and the guy hadn't said anything or made any moves towards her. Except
for his usual customary pecks when seeing her off.
She remembered one evening he'd asked her to meet
him at home. She'd gone rather early, hoping to spend a little pr time with
Aunty Lulu. She went into the kitchen, there was water on the cooker boiling.
She'd switched off the gas. She wondered where Aunty Lulu was. She obviously
had been cooking. She went into the living room, and saw no one.
"Aunty Lulu," she'd called, making for
her room. She met her lying on the bed, looking frail.
"Aunty Lulu, are you all right?" she
asked, staring worriedly at her.
Aunty Lulu looked up, seeing her, she smiled.
"I'm fine dear. I didn't know when you came?"
"I came through the back door," she
said. She was arranging pictures.
"Careless me, dear, I must've forgotten to
lock it. Well, this place is quite safe."
"Aunty, can I see those pictures?" she
asked not being able to hide her curiosity any longer.
"Of course my dear, here let me
introduce," Aunty Lulu offered, handing them to her. "This is Tamie's
parents, his mom an American, she was an artist and his dad, a doctor of sort.
I've never seen such a nice couple," she said, a vacant faraway look
passing through her features. "So sad they had to die like that."
Latie looked up, and saw her sad look.
She brought out the picture of a very pretty
baby. "Latie, this is Tamie's sister. She disappeared at the venue of the
crash. Her body was never found. It hurt so much, she was my baby. But deep
down inside me, my instincts tell me she didn't die, but I can't explain
it." She finished, her eyes filled with sorrow.
Latie stared at the woman, gripped by grief of a
past that has refused to die. "Trust me Latie, that Tamie's uncle, I don't
trust him." Aunty Lulu hissed. "I believe ... I believe ... "
"Hello! Who's home? Where are my two lovely
ladies?" they heard Tamie call out.
Latie quickly stood up, moving to the living room,
the direction of the voice, while giving Aunty Lulu time to tidy up.
'Hi darling" he said on seeing her. He swung
her into his arms, both laughing. "Here, come over here, I got you
something."
"What. .. what is it?" she asked, her
eyes shining as she followed him to the dining table. There was a nylon bag on
the table. He lifted it and handed it over to her. She took it and peered
inside.
“Waow! You got me Samsung phone. Oh Tamie!” she
flung herself into his arms. He stare down at her and she stared back. In that
moment, their awareness of each other was so strong. She read it in his eyes
that he wanted her. The moment was broken when Aunty Lulu came out.
“Tamie, you’re back,” she said
“Yes Aunty,” he replied, releasing Latie, who
quickly composed herself and showed Aunty Lulu the new phone. She could’ve
sworn he’d wanted to kiss her. Her body tingled at the memory and though of his
arms on her body. After that night at her place he hadn’t touched her.
Few minutes later, he came out spotting a jean
shirt and short, his favourite beach attire. "Lets hit the beach. It's a
Friday evening," he said.
"Okay," she replied, smiling and bade.
Aunty Lulu good night. They got into the jeep.
"Tamie, you know its 7.30p.m," she
said.
"Hmm. I just want to be with you," he
said, negotiating a turning on his Osborn Street.
She thought they were going to Kuramo beach,
their normal hideout but he drove towards mile two.
"Where are we going?" she asked.
"Badagry beach. They have a fabulous hotel accommodation."
"I haven't changed my clothes," she
protested
"Not to worry, I've called your cousin,
Olu," he assured her. "Oh!" she murmured.
"Relax sweetheart, it's going to be a
beautiful weekend, I assure you." She smiled and looked out as the car
sped away.
They arrived there an hour thirty minutes later,
and he went to pay for a room.
"Lets go," he said and went to the boot
of the car to pull out a small luggage. "Here, hold this" he said and
pulled out another luggage.
"What's inside?" she asked, staring at
the luggage.
"You'll find out soon," he said, a
mischievous smile playing around his lips. They were shown into a beautiful
suite. The waiter asked if they wanted anything, and she ordered for fresh fish
pepper soup. The waiter Ieft, shutting the door after him. She stood up and
gazed round the room.
"It's a beautiful room," she said,
casting him a sidelong look. He was lying on the bed, looking relaxed. He
caught her staring at him and she quickly looked way.
Suddenly, she felt hands enveloping her, and
turning her around. “Hmm, you smile nice,” he murmured staring into her eyes.
“A penny for your thoughts,” he said.
She smiled and he lowered his lips on her. The
knock on the door drew them apart. With her heart hammering in her breast, she
went to open the door on shaking legs. The waiter brought their orders.
"I think I'll have a shower," she said,
standing up and beading for the bathroom.
"You've not opened your luggage," he
said. She turned to him. "Open it" he said, smiling. She walked over
to the box and flipped it open. She was shocked.
He'd planned this whole trip. Slowly, she lifted
the clothes up. There were two jeans trousers and a jean short with two jean
shirts, a sleeveless spaghetti gown with a V cut cleavage, some undies and bras
and a pair of very sexy nightgowns. She was lost for words. He also bought her
a very t expensive cream, toothbrush, perfume and deodorant.
"You sure went shopping," she drawled,
smiling at him.
"Sure sweetheart, wear the nightie
please." He pleaded. She nodded and picked it up heading for the
bathroom.
“I’d like to join you there, “he called after
her. She cast him a look, "why not," and entered the bath. He joined
her later. He took the soap from her and soaped her. She knew he was hard and she
wanted him so much. When he was through soaping her body, she did the same to
him.
Without a towel, he lifted her up and carried her
into the bedroom. He laid her on the bed and joined her. She lay back as he
kissed and caressed her and finally he took her. An hour later, they lay side
by side as he cuddled her in his arms.
"I love you Latie." He said. "I
love you too." She murmured. "Will you marry me?" she looked up,
shock, surprise, evident in her eyes.
"I want you to bear my children, share my life
with me and I'll be 'privileged if you would accept my proposal" he said.
.
She closed her eyes. Their relationships were
eight months old and she hadn't expected such things coming from him. She
opened her eyes and the first thing that caught her eyes was the beautiful
emerald engagement ring. Tears filled her eyes as she held out her hand,
murmuring a yes to his proposal.
