NO PLACE TO HIDE CHAPTER THREE

Nanny lulu was tired. She'd stayed over for the church meetings after service. She had only taken breakfast, so she was very weak. Slowly, she trudged home. The gateman quickly opened the gate on seeing her. After exchanging greetings, she strolled in.
"How nice, Tamie is home," she exclaimed smiling as she noted his car. "Yes, mama. He don come back since," the gateman replied.
She noticed a lady in the car. She was surprised. The lady was asleep. How could Tamie have left her in the car? She wondered, moving closer to the car. She tapped the young girl on the arm and instantly, the lady's head snapped up. She rubbed her eyes, swearing softly. She had dozed off.
"Why are you sleeping in the car, young lady?" nanny lulu asked, a puzzled expression on her face. "Why don't you come in?" she offered.
Feeling foolish, Latie opened the door and got down from the car. "You came with Tamie?"
"Yes ma."

"Well, I really don't know why he left you out here. Honestly, that boy's behavior leaves much to be desired sometimes," she complained, annoyed.
Immediately, they walked in, Tamie sat up. He'd been watching a film. He smiled at nanny who ignored him, glaring at him.
"Why did you leave this poor girl outside in the car?"
Tamie stared at Latie as if seeing her for the first time. He gave a Gallic shrug of his shoulders, which made Latie boil with anger.
"She turned down my offer to come into the house," he defended his action. Nanny stared at him for some minutes then turned away, ushering Latie to a couch.
"My dear, would you like to take something?"
"Yes ma," Latie replied shyly.
Nanny lulu smiled, and took off to the kitchen. She later emerged with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

"Here dear, dinner will soon be ready." Tamie felt guilty for leaving her outside but he felt she was the cause of everything. Staring at her seemed to quicken his pulse and heart beat. He stole a look at her, she was so still, she could have been a painter's delight. Nanny came in and announced that dinner was ready.
"Come to the table, I've made braised potatoes, curry source with fried batter chicken. It's really nice. Come on and have some." She ushered Latie to the table, while Tamie followed behind. They ate in silence, each deep in their own thoughts.
"You'll drop Latie off, I presume?" "Yes, aunty. I will drop her."
"You're Yoruba, Latie, aren't you?" Nanny lulu queried, staring at the silent girl,

"Yes aunty, I'm from Ondo state."You're still in school?" 'Yes, ma, but I'm doing my IT now, am in 400 level."
Such a nice well brought up girl, nanny thought to herself smiling. Latie helped her clear the table and do the dishes, complimenting her on the meal, while nanny told her stories of Tamie as a child. .
"You mean his parents died in a car accident?" Latie asked with dismay written over her face. "Yes dear, even his baby sister, Paula. Her death hurt me because she was only eighteen months and he nine when it happened.
We had recently come back a year    earlier from the States. When next you ,come, I'll show you his baby pictures and that of Paula. Such a beautiful baby she was ... " she paused.
Latie gazed at her and was surprised to see tears fill her eyes. She must've really loved them, for her to still feel pain after such a long time.

Just as she was finishing up, Tamie came into the kitchen. She'd tried to ignore him all evening after what he'd done to her. The bastard was worthless. She refused to allow herself feel guilty. No doubt she was attracted to him. He was handsome and unfortunately, her dream man and every girl's dream.
"Are you ready sweetheart? Its getting late," he said.
"Don't call me, sweetheart," she hissed under her breath. Her eyes caught his laughing ones and quickly, she averted her eyes, ashamed of the thrill that went through her body at their eye contract.
"Aunty, thank you for the delicious meal," She walked into the living room to pick up her handbag.
"My daughter, I had wanted to show you the pictures, but perhaps, when you come next time, I hope you'll come again," Latie smiled shyly, not , hi saying anything.

They got into the car, her, the security man opened the gate and they drove out. "Would you like to go somewhere his head where, or' take anything?" Tamie offered.
"No thanks, I'm really tired, I want to go home," she replied. yearning for the comfort of her bed.
They got to her house. She made to open the door but he stopped her. "Wait, wait, please Latie I believe we need to talk."
She turned to stare at him. "I don't think we have anything to talk about," she answered.
"Please, I know you're offended, we both behaved childishly but I believe I should've known better. Right from the first time I saw you, you touched a chord in me. I know I haven't passed myself off with good marks where you're concerned.

Seeing you that day at the party for the second time made me realize I wanted you in my life."
She stole a look at him; finding it difficult to believe the great snobbish Tamie was the one talking. He reached out gingerly and took her hand. Soft hands, he thought. "I want you like I've never wanted another woman in my life. Your energy, vivacity everything about you, you're so full of life, like a ray of sunshine, which is what I need."
He squeezed her hand and turned to her, he caressed her cheek, eyes, and lips.  "You have such lovely lips, everything about you is perfect." She burst into laughter.
"Come on Tamie, nothing is perfect, "she cried.
"Oh yes, sweetheart, some things are," he murmured. Pulling her closer, he lifted her chin up and they both stared into each other's eyes. In a trance like state, she watched him lower his lips on to hers, kissing her lightly at first, and slowly savoring her lips. Slowly, the kiss deepened. He cupped her face between his hands, planting soft kisses on her forehead, nose, eyes, and lips, while she laughed and pulled his head down to hers. In a few minutes, she lay on his laps. How she got there was lost to her.

"I've to go now," she murmured, staring up at him her eyes saying otherwise. "I know," he murmured, smiling too as he planted soft kisses on her face. She giggled, pulled his head down to hers, their lips joined. He undid the first two buttons of her top, his head caressing her erect nipples. She moaned in pleasure as he played with her breast, stopping every second to continue with their kiss.
Finally, she wrenched herself away from him laughing and buttoning up her top with shaky hands. "Tamie, I've got to go, its late. I don't want my cousins getting worried," she complained, trying to tidy herself.
He simply stared at her, drinking in her troubled appearance. "You look okay to me ... " he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Of course, I know you'll say that," she hissed, glaring at him.
"Can we see tomorrow?" he asked. "I'll give you a call," she replied. "Lets see in the evening," he offered, staring hungrily at her.
"What time?" she asked. Why don't you come to the office, but call first." "I don't have a phone," she protested.
"That will be remedied; you should get a phone this week. Come in by 5.30p.m. I'll wait for you, we can go home together," he said.
"Okay, see ya" she said and opened the door. She stood waving at him as he reversed and drove off into the night.
